Project title: KENDO - Rhythms of the Displaced Stone

At the centre of this practice is the Luo tradition of kendo (cooking stones), which the artist uses as a physical and symbolic anchor to explore how core cultural practices adapt, clash, or transform when placed into global, digital, and modern environments.​​

The underlying practice in this piece of work is artistic research and multidisciplinary performance art, specifically rooted in the uprooting and recontextualizing of traditional ancestral rituals within contemporary spaces.

In the Luo tradition, kendo forms the hearth a sacred space of heat, nourishment, and oral storytelling. By uprooting kendo and repositioning it within an experimental, multidisciplinary environment, it stimulates emotions and memories tied to belonging. This work positions the audience before a newly world, questioning cultural continuity, what survives and what transforms when tradition collides with rapidly evolving spaces.
