Project title: Nonro (kinship, sharing an ancestry) 

Kin, relation sharing an ancestry, the project contemplates and interrogates the state of being in resonance with lineage inheritance, identifying factual and the essence of the path that one is identified with, these thoughts may actuate perceptions of being present in the cultural fabric of a community, the effects that emerges around social relations and community's views in regard to belonging. While in anthropology matrilineality is important and determines who should inherit property on a person’s death the Luo custom of Kenya leans  on patrilineal.

 

Concept: Nonro_Audio - Visual Integration

The work is conceived during the process of developing and integrating short childhood and cultural stories into images, the audio recreation is inspired by everyday lives of native Luo people, how their landscape and environment shapes their social engagements, embodiment of rituals and ceremonial acts that guide their formation, including death, burial customs and social perception of death, and how partners maintain connections after spouse departure. The process is further experimented using reversed audio to create feedback layers, abstract and camouflage scenes to highlight the emotional depth of the piece. 

 

Performance illustration on its early stage is a dialogue between a dancer's body and interactive visuals that include pre-recorded videos, and live captured sound/music. 

The project also uses a collection of household eggshells and a recycled chair to evoke intimate, domestic, and ritualistic imagery echoing the use of symbolic objects in the traditional ways. 

Challenged by adequate working space for the process, the artist is continuing to utilize conventional space to capture the images and emphasise layering lights to bring details in the visuals of this work.
